I previously held GP registration

If you are a:

  • GP returning to general practice in the UK, you need to complete the GP Return to Practice Programme
  • GP who qualified overseas who has never worked in the NHS, you need to complete the GP International Induction Programme.

These schemes are mandatory for any GP who falls into one of those categories. The schemes support the safe return to work after a break in practice and those from overseas who are new to NHS practice.

You should apply to join the relevant scheme after your application for GMC GP registration has been approved.

To find out more, including information on how to apply, please visit the website below for the country in which you intend to practise.

For England, visit the GP Return to Practice Programme or International Induction Programmewebsites.

For Wales, visit the HEIW website.

For Scotland, visit the Scotland Deanery website.

If you want to work as a GP in the UK, you must also apply to be included on the Medical Performers List.
