Legal proceedings in Welsh language
- We recognise registrants’ right to use the Welsh language during fitness to practise (FtP) processes.
- In accordance with the standards, when we contact a registrant for the first time in relation to an investigation that may lead to legal proceedings, we will actively offer to facilitate their language preference in meetings and scheduled telephone calls relating to the investigation. When this offer is taken up, we will conduct any meetings or scheduled telephone calls in Welsh, or provide simultaneous translation if necessary.
- We will also actively offer to provide any copies of forms and documents we produce in relation to the investigation in Welsh. We will not treat the production of these forms or documents less favourably than those we produce in English. We will also not treat any forms or documents related to the investigation submitted by a registrant in Welsh less favourably than those submitted in English.
- We will actively offer to facilitate language preferences during legal proceedings, for example by making sure that simultaneous translation between Welsh an English is available at the meeting.
- Information on how the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) complies with the standards can be found on the Welsh language standards page on the MPTS website.
