Our initial assessment

We aim to carry out an initial assessment of your application within five working days. This may take longer during busy periods. 

We’ll contact you if we need more information

Following our initial assessment, we may ask you for more information or evidence. We may also refer your application for advice from another team. We’ll let you know if we do this.

When will you make a decision on my application?

Once we have all the information and evidence we need, we’ll make a decision on your application. We'll email you within five days of making the decision to let you know the outcome. If we grant your application, we'll confirm the date your name has been re-entered on the register of PAs and AAs. 

Do not assume that your name has been re-entered until you receive confirmation. 

Until 13 December 2026, the need to hold GMC registration to work as a PA or AA in the UK is at the discretion of your employer. You must make sure you have the appropriate registration status for any work you carry out. 

From 13 December 2026, you must hold GMC registration to work as a PA or AA.
