Information on booking a place

Am I eligible to book the AARA-KT?

If you're a UK student AA, and started your course after September 2023, you will need to sit the AARA-KT. Speak to your course provider about when you should sit the assessment.

We’ll email you during the second year of your course to give you your GMC reference number and invite you to book a place on the AARA-KT.

If you're an internationally-qualified AA, and you want to apply for registration, you'll need to contact our Associate Professions Applications Team in the first instance, so they can assess your qualification and advise you of the next steps. You will also need to read our registration guidance for internationally-qualified anaesthesia associates.

There is a limit on the number of times you can take the exam. Candidates can continue to take the exam until they have failed it four times. If you would like to take the exam again following your fourth failed attempt, you must apply for an additional attempt.

If you fail this fifth and final attempt, you’ll no longer be eligible to take the exam.

How do I book an AARA-KT place?

You can view available assessment dates in the When can you take AARA-KT chapter of this guide. You’ll need to get in touch with our Contact Centre to book your place. We’ll then email you within two working days to confirm the booking.

By making a booking, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions as set out in the anaesthesia associate booking declaration.

How much does it cost?

Please visit our Fees page for price listings. You can view these on the test fees tab.

Can I book an exam place through anyone else other than the GMC?

No. You can only book an AARA-KT place by contacting our Contact Centre.

You must not share their account information with any third party or attempt to book a place anywhere other than directly through the GMC.

Sharing your account details with any third party is misconduct and may impact your AARA booking or any future registration application. Sharing account information can put your personal, financial and other online account information at risk.

If you have a query about an existing booking, please email exams@gmc-uk.org for help.
