Revalidation for doctors with a connection

These steps explain how to revalidate if you need your licence to practise and you are connected to a responsible officer through your designated body, or to a suitable person.

Step 1: Check your connection

Make sure your connection remains up-to-date and correct in GMC Online. It is your responsibility to update this if you no longer have a connection, or if you change roles and have a different designated body or suitable person.

Step 2: Know your requirements

Your requirements

As a doctor with a connection to responsible officer or suitable person, you need to make sure you:

Keep your contact information updated in GMC Online
Understand your requirements for revalidation
Collect and reflect on your supporting information
Discuss this at an annual whole practice appraisal based on Good medical practice
Provide additional information upon request.

You need to complete these actions within the specified timescales in order to maintain your licence to practise. The organisations that you work in will also need to have systems in place to support you with revalidation.

Step 3: Your revalidation

You will usually revalidate once every five years. As a doctor with a connection, your responsible officer (RO) or suitable person (SP) must make a recommendation to the GMC by your revalidation submission date. We will then decide whether you should be revalidated.
