Interim measures

At any point during an assessment of their fitness to practise, we can refer a PA or AA to an interim measures tribunal at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS).

We do this where the allegations against a PA or AA are serious enough that, if proven, would mean the PA or AA poses a threat to patients or the public.

A referral to an interim measures tribunal does not mean that we have made a decision on the allegations against a PA or AA.

An interim measures tribunal hearing can:

  • take no action
  • impose conditions on a PA or AA to limit their practise while we investigate, or
  • suspend the PA or AA while we investigate.

You can read more about interim measures on the MPTS website.
