Referral to a medical practitioners tribunal
All hearings should be heard within nine months of referral to the MPTS.
What you can expect
We’ll send you contact details of the GMC legal adviser dealing with the hearing so you can get in touch if you need to. We’ll also keep you updated on how the hearing preparation is progressing.
What we need from you
- We may ask you to provide a witness statement, either as a witness to the concerns raised and/or about how the doctor has responded to them to help with the Tribunal’s decision. We’ll let you know as soon as we decide.
- We may need you to attend the hearing to give evidence. Read more about attending a hearing.
- We may ask you to provide witness contact details, for example of current or former members of staff at your organisation, or patients and/or their family. We may also ask for your help if we are having difficulty contacting a witness.
- We may request further documentary evidence from you, eg medical records, local investigation reports or policies.
We’ll be under strict deadlines to provide this to the MPTS, so we may need to ask you for the information above at much shorter notice than normal.
For more information about what can happen at hearing, see the MPTS website.
