Other potential outcomes

On rare occasions our investigations might not reach final disclosure stage because the doctor is removed from the medical register. This could be:

Voluntary erasure, where the doctor applies to be erased from the register. We will decide whether to approve the doctor’s application for voluntary erasure depending on whether it’s in the public interest to remove the doctor from the medical register prior to our investigation being concluded.

Administrative erasure, where the doctor is erased from the register for failing to pay their annual fee or keep their registered address up to date.  We’ll decide if this is appropriate based on whether the continuing the investigation is in the public interest.

Following administrative or voluntary erasure

Where we decide to erase the doctor’s name from the register, we will let you know.

If the doctor later applied to rejoin the register, we’d consider their application, but may direct some further investigation to help us make this decision.
