You must pay a fee to register with us. This page tells you how to pay your initial fee for registration with a licence to practise.

How much do I have to pay?

Fixed term discounts for newly qualified doctors

Application for full registration with a licence to practise: £1531 until 31 March 2020, £156 from 1 April 2020. 

Application for provisional registration with a licence to practise:
£51 until 31 March 2020, £52 from 1 April 2020.

1 The discounted application fee applies to doctors who hold or have previously held provisional registration or for doctors who submit their application within five years of passing a primary medical qualification and do not hold, or have not previously held provisional registration. This discounted fee covers your first year of full registration.

Standard fees to join the medical register

Application for full registration with a licence to practise for doctors not eligible for the discounted fees: £3993 until 31 March 2020, £406 from 1 April 2020 

Application for full registration with a licence to practise for a temporary period for a visiting eminent specialist:
£3993 until 31 March 2020, £406 from 1 April 2020

Scrutiny fee if your application to join the register is refused, closed or withdrawn:
£92 until 31 March 2020, £94 from 1 April 2020.

3 Doctors whose gross annual worldwide income from all sources is below the specified income threshold, may be entitled to a 50% discount on the value of their annual retention fee. Further information can be found on our income discount page.

How to pay

When you apply online for registration with a licence to practise using GMC Online, you must pay by credit or debit card. We accept all major cards apart from American Express. If you can't apply online or pay by credit or debit card, please contact us for advice.

Tax relief and receipts

We're on the list of HM Revenue & Customs approved organisations. This means you may be able to claim tax relief on your registration fee. You can find more information on the HMRC website.

You'll need payment receipts to claim, you can them from your GMC Online account.
