Financial support for doctors
You may be eligible to support if you are newly-qualified or your income is low, we also provide support to help you to pay your fees.
Payment plans
Setting up a Direct Debit for your annual fee enables you to spread the cost and provide reassurance that your registration is maintained, even if we collect your fee after your annual fee due date.
You can choose to pay in full, quarterly or ten monthly instalments, and select a payment date that suits you.
All you need to set up a Direct Debit is a UK bank account. For more information, please read our guide to paying by Direct Debit.
Discounts for doctors
Currently we offer two discounts on annual fees:
- Fixed term discount is applied to newly-qualified doctors, or doctors moving from provisional registration to full registration. This covers the first year of full registration and up to four years of discount on the annual fee.
- Income discount is available to doctors whose annual income is lower than the income threshold.
Find out more by reading our discounts guide.
Support for refugees
We provide specific financial support for doctors with refugee status. Please read our guide for more information on support we provide to refugees with fees.
Changing your status on the register
If you no longer need your registration or licence to practise if you hold one, you can apply to give these up. If you give up your licence you will pay a reduced annual retention fee. Before you consider one of these options, please find out more about how to change your status on the medical register of doctors.
Tax relief
We are on the list of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) approved organisations which means that doctors may be entitled to tax relief on their registration and annual fee. Further information can be found on the HMRC website.
