Giving up your registration example scenarios

If you are applying to give up your registration the example scenarios below will help you work out what evidence you'll need to submit.

A locum who works at different places over four months

A doctor works for four full months (January, April, May and September) as a locum GP for different places each month. He wants to end his registration in December and needs to submit:

  • A completed online application.
  • Provision of medical services statements from each place to cover the last three months of work (April, May and September)

A doctor who moves to Australia

A doctor ends her 12 years of practising in the UK on 31 March and moves to Australia to start work on 1 May. She applies to give up her registration on 30 June and submits:

  • A completed online application.
  • Provision of medical services statement for her UK work covering the period 1 March to 31 March.
  • Provision of medical services statement for her work in Australia covering the period 1 May to 30 June.
  • Certificate of good standing from Australia.

A doctor who is going to retire

A doctor is going to retire on 15 August after 33 years as a GP working for the NHS. He applies to give up his registration on 10 June but he wants us to end his registration on 16 August. He submits:

  • A completed application form.
  • Provision of medical services statement from the NHS that covers the period 10 May to 10 August.
