To register with us, you must have completed an acceptable medical degree. This is commonly known as your primary medical qualification.
What do I need to provide?
As part of your application, you’ll need to:
- check we accept your primary medical qualification. If your qualification is not on our list, you'll need to apply for registration through another route.
- provide evidence of your postgraduate qualification. Please check our list to see what evidence you need to provide. You must submit the same evidence to ECFMG for verification.
Primary source verification
You’ll need to have your postgraduate medical qualification independently verified (in the same way as your primary qualification) before we can grant your registration with a licence to practise. Read about what this means for you.
You can check our list of acceptable postgraduate qualifications to see what evidence you need to verify. Please note that some postgraduate qualifications must be accompanied by a letter which also requires verification.
What must my certificate include?
Make sure you send us a scanned copy of the decorative primary medical qualification certificate you were given when you first qualified.
Your certificate must show the exact date you passed your final exam or assessment. If it doesn’t, then provide a letter from your university confirming this date.
