- What is it like to be a PLAB examiner?
I value being able to participate in the GMC registration process for doctors who qualified from abroad.
The PLAB2 exam day is well run by the GMC staff, who are experienced, friendly and very supportive.
Standards are set each morning for every station which ensures fairness of the assessment. The PLAB2 assessment level is that of a Foundation Year 2 doctor working on their first day.
Being a PLAB2 examiner adds to the variety of my role as a doctor. I thoroughly enjoy the exposure to a wide range of clinical specialties (both with meeting examiners outside of my specialty and getting exposed to a variety of clinical cases) which helps me keep my clinical knowledge up to date. I also gain invaluable assessment skills which I am able to apply to my other professional roles.'
I have found the exam to be very fair and consistent. My initial worries about examining material outside my specialty have proved to be unfounded as I have found that there is enough information provided to enable you to cope with this. This has also made me revisit some of these areas after the exam which has made me a better examiner.'
