Checking the register of PAs and AAs
- Summary
- Checking the register of PAs and AAs
- GMC reference numbers
You can check whether a physician associate or anaesthesia associate holds registration with us by searching our online registers.
You can check the following:
- Does the PA or AA hold registration?
- Does the GMC reference number they have given you match the details shown on our online registers?
- Are you sure of the PA or AA’s identity?
Ongoing administrative checks
You can do regular checks to make sure a PA or AA’s status on the register has not changed.
PAs and AAs may ask us to remove their entry from the register. They can also have their register entries removed for other reasons, like:
- not paying their annual fee
- not keeping their contact details up to date.
If you have access to NHS Electronic Staff Record, you can use this to check for changes in registration status.
Fitness to practise checks
You should tell us if you're concerned about the fitness to practise of a PA or AA who is on the register of PAs and AAs. Please see our web pages on how to raise a concern.
We cannot investigate concerns about PAs and AAs who aren’t registered with us because we have no legal power to do so. Employers will need to deal with those concerns locally.
