Advisory Forum on GMC procedures and health

What is its purpose?

The board was set up as part of the GMC’s Supporting Vulnerable Doctors programme.

This programme was developed following a review of our fitness to practise processes from the perspective of the health and wellbeing of those involved. Overseen by Professor of Psychiatry, Louis Appleby. 

The review identified a need for a mechanism to make sure we have expert input to advise and provide challenge in relation to the health and wellbeing of those in GMC procedures. The board was set up to meet that need. 

Membership of the board comprises representatives from the lead bodies for psychiatrists, GPs and occupational health physicians, as well as an individual doctor representative.
