Our guidance

We've agreed supplementary guidance with the four UK health departments to help doctors understand how they can meet our requirements in the first cycle of revalidation. Responsible officers can use this guidance to assess when doctors will be ready to have a recommendation made about them.

Responsible officer guidance

Responsible officer regulations and guidance – England, Scotland and Wales

The Department of Health (England) published these regulations and guidance in January 2011. They explain the duties of responsible officers and the prescribed connections which doctors have with designated bodies. The DH is currently consulting on changes to these regulations in England only.

Responsible officer regulations and guidance – Northern Ireland

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety published these regulations and guidance in October 2010.
