Scrutiny fees and application refunds

This page explains the circumstances where a scrutiny fee may be payable, or a refund may be applicable, on an application for registration with a licence to practise and/or entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through specialty equivalence.

If, once you have submitted your application fee, you withdraw your application or your application is unsuccessful, there may be a scrutiny fee payable or you may receive a partial refund of your application fee. The scenarios below show the different fees that will apply:

  1. 1. I have applied for registration with a licence to practise only
  2. 2. I have applied for registration with a licence to practise and entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through specialty equivalence
  3. 3. I am already registered and have applied for entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through specialty equivalence.

Scenario 1

I have applied for registration with a licence to practise only

If you choose to withdraw your application or it is unsuccessful you will be refunded your registration fee less a £95 scrutiny fee if you applied prior to 1 April 2013 or your regostration fee less a £90 scrutiny fee if you applied after 1 April 2013.

Scenario 2

I have applied for registration with a licence to practise and entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through specialty equivalence

If you choose to withdraw your application for specialty equivalence only you will be refunded your specialty equivalence application fee less an administration fee for the work already completed on your application.

If you choose to withdraw both your specialty equivalence application and your application for registration with a licence to practise then you will be refunded:

  • your registration fee less a £95 scrutiny fee if you applied prior to 1 April 2013 or your registration fee less a £90 scrutiny fee if you applied after 1 April 2013.

And

  • your specialty equivalence fee less an administration fee for the work already completed on your application.

If your application for registration with a licence to practise and entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register is unsuccessful you will be refunded your registration fee only less a £95 scrutiny fee if you applied prior to 1 April 2013 or £90 scrutiny fee if you applied after 1 April 2013.

Scenario 3

I am already registered and have applied for entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through specialty equivalence

If you choose to withdraw your application for specialty equivalence you will be refunded your application fee less an administration fee for the work already completed on your application.

Any refund will either be made back to the credit or debit card that was used to make the original payment, or where payment was originally made by cash or cheque the refund will be made by cheque.
