I need to update my details on the registers

Update your details in GMC Online

You need to keep your details up to date in GMC Online. This includes your:

  • Address
  • Email
  • Designated body or suitable person (revalidation)
  • Direct debit details.

You can also use GMC Online to change your details on the registers.

Changing your address

It's important to make sure your registered address is always current. The best way to keep your address and contact details up to date is to change them in GMC Online.

Changing your name

Good medical practice requires you to make sure you're identifiable to your patients and colleagues. For example, by using your registered name when signing statutory documents.

If you've changed your name and want this to be reflected on the registers you'll need to complete the electronic change of name form. The form tells you what evidence to provide, which you can scan and attach when you submit the form.

You must return the form and scanned evidence from your registered email address. You can check your registered email address through GMC Online.

Changing your name and gender status

Good medical practice  requires you to make sure you're identifiable to your patients and colleagues. For example, by using your registered name when signing statutory documents.

If you want to practise using a name and gender status that is different to the details held on the registers, please email regservices2@gmc-uk.org, or call us to find out how to do this. Your enquiry will be handled by an experienced adviser, who will help you through this straightforward process. Your enquiry will be confidential.

The application process

We'll email you an application form, which will tell you what evidence to send for your change of name. You don't need to provide any evidence of your change of gender status.

You must return the form and evidence from your registered email address. You can check your registered email address through GMC Online.

Your application will be confidential.

Two separate entries will be published on the online registers. One will be under your old details; the other will be in your new details. Both entries have a different GMC reference number.
