Logging in to GMC Online and GMC Connect – troubleshooting guide

GMC Online

GMC Online is our secure portal for doctors. You can use your GMC Online account to manage your registration, keep your contact details up to date, maintain your revalidation details and print a certificate of proof of entry to the medical register.

Your email address

Can I use a different email address to my registered email address to sign into GMC Online?

You can use any email address for your new sign in for GMC Online. But it should be one only you can access.

Please note the email address you use to sign into GMC Online will also become the registered email address we use to contact you in the future.

I tried to sign into my GMC Online account, but it says ‘You have already created a GMC account with that email address’ 

Please sign in to GMC Online again using your GMC reference number. 

When it asks you to give an email address again, click the ‘I can already sign in with an email address’ link at the bottom. Then enter your email address and password.

I tried to create a GMC Online account, but it says ‘You have already created a GMC account with that email address’

Please go to the Create GMC Online account page and click the ‘I can already sign in with my email address’ link at the bottom. Then enter your email address and password when asked.

My browser crashed while I was creating a GMC Online account for the first time.  I tried to start again, but it won’t accept my email address.

Please go to the Create GMC Online account page and click the ‘I can already sign in with my email address’ link at the bottom. 

Then enter the email and password you gave us to continue with your new user sign up.

Password

I clicked ‘Forgot password?’ but it says ‘We are having difficulty retrieving your information’.

Please contact us to check your contact details are up to date. 

My browser used to remember my password for me but now it doesn’t.

Your browser won’t remember your old details because the sign in page has moved. It should remember your new details after you’ve signed in for the first time. 

Can' remember your password? Go to the GMC Online sign in page and use the ‘Forgot password?’ link.

When I try to reset my password it says ‘Unable to verify your log in details, please try again or contact us.’

Try to reset your password again from the GMC Online sign in page, but this time enter your GMC reference number when asked. 

If you continue to have problems, contact us.

Your six-digit verification code

I haven’t received the email with my six-digit code

Your six-digit code may take a few minutes to arrive. Please check all your mail folders including spam or junk. The email will be from noreply@gmc-uk.org. If you still can’t find the email, please contact us. 

I have received my six-digit code but I closed my browser, how do I enter it?

You'll need restart what you were doing again. The code you received expires after 20 minutes. You’ll be sent a new code if needed.

GMC Connect

GMC Connect is our system for managing the secure transfer of data, both into and out of the organisation.

Your username

I’ve forgotten my GMC Connect username

Your GMC Connect username will have been emailed to you when you originally set up account. It’s not usually an email address. If you can’t remember it please email your contact the GMC or contact us.

Your email address

I tried to sign into my GMC Connect account, but it says ‘You have already created a GMC account with that email address’

Please sign in to GMC Connect using your GMC Connect username.

You’ll then be asked to give an email address and create a password. Click on the ‘I've already created an email sign in for GMC Online' link at the bottom instead.

Then enter the email address and password you used for GMC Online.

Try to sign in to GMC Connect again. but on the sign up form click ‘I can already sign in with my email address’ at the bottom. Enter your email address and password on the next page.

Linking your GMC Online and GMC Connect accounts

If you’re a doctor with existing GMC Online and GMC Connect accounts, you can create one sign in for both. So, you’ll only need to remember one email and password.

I’ve used different email addresses for GMC Online and GMC Connect, can I still link my accounts to one sign in?

Please contact us or your GMC contact. They’ll ask for details of your accounts and which email address you would like to use. Our IT team will then sort this for you.

I’ve linked my GMC Connect and GMC Online accounts but want to separate them.

You can’t separate your accounts. Please contact us if this is a problem so we can discuss options.

Do I have to link my GMC Connect and GMC Online accounts?

You do not have to link your accounts. But, by linking them you only need to remember one email and password.

I use the associates’ portal. Why can't I link that account to my new sign in?

We are planning improvements to our associates’ portal in the future. For now, to access the portal, you’ll need to use your existing login details.
