How do I set up a GMC Online account?
When you first apply to join the register, we give you a seven-digit GMC reference number. You will keep this throughout your professional career. This number is your unique identifier.
If you do not have a GMC reference number
If you don’t have a GMC reference number, to set up your GMC Online account, first go to our application route finder.
This will tell you which application to apply for. You’ll then get a link to set up your GMC Online account and will receive your GMC reference number.
If you have a GMC reference number
If you have a GMC reference number and you think you have a GMC Online account, you can simply sign in using your GMC reference number.
If you can’t remember your GMC reference number, you might be able to find it by entering your name on the medical register. Otherwise, please contact us so we can help.
If you have a GMC reference number but have never signed into GMC Online, you will need to activate your account.
If you’re a UK student
During your final year we’ll email you on your medical school email address (the one ending ac.uk). We’ll email you a link, along with your GMC reference number, and ask you to activate your GMC Online account and complete a digital ID check.
Please don’t attempt to set up an account before you get this email. See troubleshooting information on activating your account.
As part of this process, you’ll need to verify your medical school email address and your date of birth. If these don’t match you won’t be able to activate your account and you’ll need to contact us.
