Registration guidance for international physician associates
This guide is for physician associates (PAs) who have a qualification from a country outside of the UK that allows them to practise the profession.
Before you can apply for registration, you will need to:
- Have your qualification assessed by us to determine if it is acceptable for registration in the UK
- Obtain evidence of English language (where necessary)
- Pass the PA Registration Assessment (PARA)
- Obtain independent verification of your qualification through ECFMG, a division of Intealth
Only once you’ve successfully completed these steps can you then apply for registration. As part of your application, you’ll need to provide:
- Registration and licensing history
- Work history
- Completed fitness to practise declaration
- Completed insurance and indemnity declaration
You’ll also need to pay an application fee and complete an identity check.
There are fees to pay throughout this process. Due to the time and costs involved, we strongly recommend you assess the prospects of finding employment as a PA in the UK before applying for registration.
