Our sanctions

We have a range of actions we can take on a doctor’s registration.

We can take action to make sure we protect patients, maintain confidence in the medical profession and uphold the standards we expect of doctors.

We can give doctors a warning. Or we can agree undertakings with them in certain cases.

We can also refer them to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), which has the power to restrict, suspend, or revoke a doctor’s registration in the UK.

All actions we take against doctors are published on the medical register according to our publication and disclosure policy
