Proposed rules, standards and guidance for PA and AA regulation: report on the public consultation

From 26 March to 20 May 2024, we ran a public consultation on the rules, standards and guidance needed to implement the regulation of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs).

The consultation covered the detailed and technical aspects of implementing the legislation that introduces regulation of PAs and AAs from 13 December 2024. We sought views on matters relating to PA and AA education, registration, dealing with concerns and the fees framework for PAs and AAs.

We also used the consultation to gather feedback on draft principles that will inform the content of fitness to practise decision-making guidance, which will apply to PAs and AAs from the end of this year, and doctors from spring 2025.

We’ve now published a report on the outcome of this public consultation.

In this guide, you can find out more about what’s included in the report and some of the key feedback we received.
