End of life care - development of the guidance

End of life treatment and care: Good practice in decision-making

During the spring and summer of 2009 the GMC consulted on new draft guidance, End of life treatment and care: Good practice in decision-making. The guidance is intended mainly for doctors, but may also help patients and the public, and other health and social care staff, to understand what they can expect from doctors involved in caring for patients who are dying.

Consultative conference – 3 June 2009

On 3 June 2009 the GMC hosted an event to discuss the key end of life care issues. Approximately 150 delegates attended the conference and the audience included doctors and their representative bodies, patient and carer representatives, palliative care and faith-based organisations and other healthcare professionals and healthcare regulators.

You can listen to the speeches from the conference below.
