Registration guidance for UK-qualified physician associates who were not on the voluntary register or who don’t already have an account with us

This guide is for:

  • UK-qualified physician associates (PAs) who qualified before the start of regulation (13 December 2024) and who were not previously on the managed voluntary register (MVR) held by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).
  • UK-qualified PAs who qualified after the start of regulation, and where your data has not been shared with us by your course provider. If your course provider has sent us your data, we will have set you up with an account and emailed you with your GMC reference number. If you aren’t sure and want to check this, you can contact us.

From 13 December 2026, you will need to hold registration with the GMC to work as a PA in the UK. It is important that you gather the evidence you need as outlined in this guide, and apply to us in good time so we can consider and make a decision on your application before this date.
