Use your qualification

We can sometimes accept your anaesthesia associate qualification as evidence of your knowledge of English.

Is your qualification from an acceptable institution?

Before we can assess your qualification as English language evidence, you will need to have your qualification assessed by us to determine if it is acceptable for registration in the UK

Please note that if your qualification is acceptable for registration, this does not mean we will accept it as English language evidence. We will assess it and may accept it as evidence if it meets our criteria.

Our criteria for using a qualification as acceptable English language evidence

If your qualification is accepted, you may be able to use this as evidence of your knowledge of English language if it:

  • is less than two years old when you apply for registration, and
  • was taught and examined solely in English.

You'll need to email us a letter or certificate from your university that confirms:

  • all of the course, including clinical activities, was taught and examined solely in English
  • at least 75% of any course related clinical interaction, including personal contact with patients, their families and other healthcare professionals, was conducted in English ie without any translation support
  • the date you passed your final exam.

Please email this letter or certificate to us with confirmation of whether you have taken the academic English Language Testing System (IELTS) test or the Occupational English Test (OET, medicine version). If you have, please provide your test report form if you’ve taken IELTS, or your candidate number if you’ve taken OET.

If your qualification is more than two years old

If you passed your final exam more than two years ago, you may still be able to use your qualification as English language evidence.

You would need to send us the letter outlined in the above section, as well as references from all your employers for the last two years confirming your English language capability. We'll only accept references from countries where the first and native language is English.

Please email us for further information on how your references can be submitted.

If you can't meet these criteria, you can't use your qualification as evidence of your knowledge of English, you will need to sit either IELTS or the OET.
