On/around 14 October 2024, in Spain, Dr Williams was charged and convicted with damaging property and resisting arrest. Dr Williams did not notify the GMC until April 2025.
This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks undermining public protection, specifically public confidence in the profession and maintenance of professional standards and conduct and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraphs 81 and 99 of Good medical practice is particularly relevant:
81 Dr Williams must make sure that his conduct justifies patients’ trust in him and the public’s trust in his profession. Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on your registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
99 Dr Williams must tell us without delay if, anywhere in the world:
a he has accepted a caution (or equivalent) from a prosecuting authority
b he has been charged with a criminal offence in person or by post
c he has been found guilty of a criminal offence
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy.
