Warnings
on the registrant's registration
Warnings are issued to indicate when a registrant's behaviour or performance is significantly below the standards expected, but when restricting a registrant's practice is not necessary. See more on warnings.
From
31 Jan 2025
to
31 Jan 2026
On 27 October 2023 you consulted with a patient and obtained their telephone number from the medical records and used it to contact them for non-medical purposes. Between 27 October and 31 December 2023, you sent the patient WhatsApp messages and you met with them on 26 November 2023.
This behaviour does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraph 86 of Good medical practice is particularly relevant:
86. You must not ... use your professional position to pursue [an] improper emotional relationship with a patient or someone close to them.
Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on your registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy
