On 26 June 2024 Dr Dodsworth behaved dishonestly in that he gave permission for another registered doctor to use his details and forge his signature on a private prescription for medication that they had previously been prescribed and which they sought to obtain for their own personal use. When later questioned by his employer Dr Dodsworth stated on two occasions that he had written the prescription himself, which he knew to be untrue. This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, the following paragraphs are particularly relevant: 81. You must make sure that your conduct justifies patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in your profession 97. You must, wherever possible, avoid providing medical care to yourself or anyone with whom you have a close personal relationship. You must follow our more detailed guidance on Good practice in prescribing and managing medicines and devices. Whilst these failings in themselves are not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Dodsworth's registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
