On 25 June 2023 Dr Ngummanka Akumah Timi was charged with driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Subsequently, on 12 December 2023, they were convicted of this offence.
They did not inform the GMC without delay that they had been charged with a criminal offence.
This behaviour does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good Medical Practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraphs 81 and 99 of Good Medical Practice are particularly relevant:
81 You must make sure that your conduct justifies your patients' trust in you and the public's trust in the profession.
99 You must tell us without delay if, anywhere in the world...
b you have been charged with or found guilty of a criminal offence in person or by post...
Whilst these failings are in themselves not so serious as to require any restriction on their registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy.
