Warnings
on the registrant's registration
Warnings are issued to indicate when a registrant's behaviour or performance is significantly below the standards expected, but when restricting a registrant's practice is not necessary. See more on warnings.
From
17 Jul 2024
to
17 Jul 2025
On 18 June 2022, Dr Malik accepted a fast-track written warning from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (‘the Warning’).
On 29 July 2022, Dr Malik signed an employment contract with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (‘the Contract’).
The Contract included a requirement for him to declare the following to his new employer:
‘any disciplinary sanctions (including dismissal) imposed upon you by previous employers or contracting bodies and the cause thereof.’
Dr Malik failed to inform St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust until 11 August 2022, that he had previously been issued with the Warning, and to disclose why the Warning had been issued.
This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraph 89(a) of Good medical practice is particularly relevant:
89 You must make sure any information you communicate as a medical professional is accurate, not false or misleading. This means:
a you must take reasonable steps to check the information is accurate.
Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Malik's registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy.
