Abbas O'oda AL-QAFAJI

On 20 August 2023 and 1 September 2023 Dr Abbas O'oda Al-Qafaji issued FP10 prescriptions, which he had inappropriately taken from his place of employment, and prescribed medication, including controlled medication, to an individual with whom he had a close personal relationship. This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, the following paragraphs are particularly relevant: 81. You must make sure that your conduct justifies patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in your profession 97. You must, wherever possible, avoid providing medical care to yourself or anyone with whom you have a close personal relationship. You must follow our more detailed guidance on Good practice in prescribing and managing medicines and devices. Whilst these failings in themselves are not so serious as to require any restriction on his registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
