Warnings
on the registrant's registration

On or around 17 April 2018 Dr Catani entered a private patient into an externally funded research project which they were not eligible to participate in and which resulted in inappropriate use of resources ringfenced for this specific research.
This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks undermining public protection, specifically public confidence in the profession and professional standards and conduct and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraphs 4, 25, 81, 85 and 98 of Good medical practice are particularly relevant:
4. You must follow the law, our guidance on professional standards, and other regulations relevant to your work.
81. You must make sure that your conduct justifies patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in your profession.
85. When designing, organising or carrying out research, you must put the interests of participants first. You must act with honesty and integrity, and follow national research governance guidelines and our more detailed guidance on Good practice in research.
Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Catani's registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy.
