On 21 July 2024 Dr Huda shared on the social media platform X the post of another person which contained text that was seriously offensive and entertained an act of sexual violence against another healthcare professional.
This behaviour does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraph 81 of Good medical practice and paragraphs 14, 15 and 16 of Using social media as a medical professional are particularly relevant:
81 You must make sure that your conduct justifies patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in your profession.
14 You must not use social media to abuse, discriminate against, bully, harass or deliberately target any individual or group.
15 When interacting with or commenting about individuals or organisations on or using social media, be aware that communications are subject to the same laws of copyright, defamation, discrimination, and harassment as written or verbal communications – whether they are made in a personal or professional capacity.
16 Using social media creates risks where social and professional boundaries become unclear. You must follow the guidance in Maintaining personal and professional boundaries.
Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Huda’s registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosure policy.
