Warnings
on the registrant's registration
Warnings are issued to indicate when a registrant's behaviour or performance is significantly below the standards expected, but when restricting a registrant's practice is not necessary. See more on warnings.

Prior to 18 April 2024, Dr Martin failed to appropriately and safely store and dispose of medications (including controlled drugs) intended for non-personal use in his home. Dr Martin also failed to maintain patient confidentiality, in that he stored medical records containing patient identifiable data in unlocked premises at his home in breach of confidentiality and data protection law requirements.
This behaviour does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraphs 71 and 81 of Good medical practice are particularly relevant:
71. You must keep records that contain personal information about patients, colleagues or others securely, and in line with any data protection law requirements and you must follow our guidance on Confidentiality: good practice in handling patient information.
81. You must make sure that your conduct justifies patients' trust in you and the public's trust in the profession.
While this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Martin's registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy.
