Ending your professional relationship with a patient

This guidance tells you what you need to think about before you make the decision to end a professional relationship with a patient. It also has advice about safeguarding, planning for the closure of your practice and handover/transfer of the professional relationship.

This guidance came into effect on 30 January 2024.

The guidance was updated on 13 December 2024 when regulation of physician associates and anaesthesia associates by the GMC came into effect.
