Statement in response to the announcement that Andrea Sutcliffe is stepping down as Chief Executive of the NMC due to ill health
Responding to the news that Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Executive and Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is stepping down owing to ill health, Charlie Massey, Chief Executive of the General Medical Council, said:
‘I am very sorry to hear that Andrea is stepping down as Chief Executive and Registrar of the NMC due to ill health.
‘Delivering healthcare regulation is a challenge but during her time at the NMC I have been hugely impressed with Andrea's commitment and the energy she has brought to delivering the NMC’s vision of safe, effective and kind nursing and midwifery practice for everyone.
‘She will be much missed but leaves strong foundations for her successor and I wish Andrea all the very best for her treatment and recovery.’
