GMC pays tribute to Council Member Lara Fielden
Tributes have been paid to Lara Fielden, a GMC council member, who died earlier this month.
Lara was appointed as a lay member to the council in December 2020.
Lara brought a wealth of experience and expertise to her role, having held leadership positions with the Bar Standards Board, the London Probation Trust and the Independent Press Standards Organisation among others. She was also a magistrate, a panellist and examiner for a number of legal and medical organisations, and Chair of Governors of the Children’s Hospital School of Great Ormond Street and University College Hospital.
"Although a relatively new council member, Lara brought invaluable insights to the council from her expert knowledge of regulation, governance and reform within the regrettably short time she served"
Professor Dame Carrie MacEwen
Acting Chair of the GMC
Professor Dame Carrie MacEwen, Acting Chair of the GMC, said: ‘We are deeply saddened by Lara’s passing. Although a relatively new council member, she brought invaluable insights to the council from her expert knowledge of regulation, governance and reform within the regrettably short time she served.
‘She will be much missed by fellow Council members and GMC colleagues who had the pleasure of working with her. Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends at this difficult time.’
