GMC launches Council member recruitment

The General Medical Council (GMC) is recruiting four new members to its governing body, the GMC Council.

The 12 Council members, six lay and six medical, set the GMC’s strategy and goals and oversee the work of the regulator, with a firm focus on its primary role of protecting the public.

We are seeking three lay members and one registrant member. One position is reserved for a person living or working predominately in Northern Ireland.

Dame Clare Marx, Chair of the GMC, said:

‘We are looking to recruit new members committed to our core tasks of protecting patients and supporting the profession. The next years will bring dramatic changes, opportunities and challenges for the profession and their regulator alike.

‘It is important that the diversity of the Council reflects the diversity of the profession and the patients and the four departing council members are all women. Our successful candidates will contribute to setting strategy, exercising oversight and making sure the GMC’s charitable and statutory purposes are fulfilled.’

Council members need to commit to a minimum of three days a month and the remuneration is £18,000 per year.
