GMC appoints new Director of Registration and Revalidation

The General Medical Council (GMC) has appointed Tamara Bruck to be its new Director of Registration and Revalidation.

Tamara, who currently works at the Environment Agency (EA), will join the regulator in October. She will work closely with the existing Director, Una Lane, in the run up her leaving the GMC, later this year, after 16 years on the senior management team.

A highly experienced chief operating officer in both the public and private sectors, Tamara is currently Executive Director of Strategy, Transformation and Assurance at the EA.

In that role she has overseen modernisation of its services and the running of key operations including its contact centre, fleet, land management services and people functions.

She previously held civil service posts including at the Home Office, Department of Work and Pensions and HM Treasury.

GMC Chief Executive Charlie Massey said:

‘Tamara has a wealth of experience and expertise, and I am delighted she will be bringing that to the GMC. Registration and revalidation are crucial to effective regulation, and at such a pivotal time, with new legislation on the way that will transform how we work, she will be invaluable.’

Tamara Bruck said:

‘I am very excited to be joining the GMC. Having worked across many public sector organisations, including another large regulator currently, I am looking forward to bringing my experience to this role and to delivering future registration and revalidation with a customer-focused and streamlined approach that keeps patient safety as its priority.’
