Coronavirus (COVID-19) - our advice for doctors

We recognise that this is a very difficult and worrying time for doctors. Our professional standards provide a framework for ethical decision making in a wide range of situations. They should be followed as far as practical in the circumstances. We're regularly updating our advice for doctors as the situation develops.

Good practice in research (summary)

Research is vital to improving the health of the population. In this guidance we explore how you can make sure that you apply the principles of good medical practice to your research, whether it involves people, human tissue or is records-based.

Following this guidance will help make sure that participants do not come to harm. And that you conduct your research honestly and remain aware of any potential conflicts of interests. We also look at how the principles of consent and confidentiality apply.

This guidance came into effect 4 May 2010.
