We recognise that this is a very difficult and worrying time for doctors. Our professional standards provide a framework for ethical decision making in a wide range of situations. They should be followed as far as practical in the circumstances. We're regularly updating our advice for doctors as the situation develops.
Confidentiality: disclosing for education and training purposes
Using information about patients is essential to medical education and training. Usually patient information can be anonymised before being used.
This guidance sets out what to do if you need to use identifiable information about a patient (you’ll usually need their explicit consent) and has other advice about using training records and case studies in your teaching.
This guidance came into effect 25 April 2017.
