Information for colleges and faculties

You have a key role in the out of programme process. Time spent on this will count towards a certificate of completion of training or certificates of eligibility for specialist registration/certificate of eligibility for general practice registration CESR/CEGPR (combined programme).

At the initial application, you must assess the proposal and decide how much time should count towards the certificate.

You should make your requirements clear, including what doctors need to submit when requesting your endorsement.

In your endorsement letter, you need to make doctors aware of the amount of time that will count towards their certificate of completion of training or CESR/CEGPR (combined programme).

When out of programme is to count towards a certificate of completion of training or CESR/CEGPR (combined programme), we can only give approval before the post has started. This is a legislative requirement. We ask that you do not endorse an application when the post has already started.

Your endorsement letter must include the following information or be part of an appendix. 

Doctor's name

Out of programme type

  • Training
  • Research
  • Acting up Consultant

Out of programme location

  • Hospital name and country

Length of out of programme

  • Start date of post
  • End date of post
  • Time to count towards certificate of completion of training/CESR (combined programme) application type
  • Exact number of months
