Credentialing process

  1. Summary
  2. Credentialing process

For applicants

Once we receive a recommendation for your credential, we will send an application form to your registered email address within ten working days. You then have up to 12 months to submit your application. If we do not receive your application within this time, it will be withdrawn.

When we receive your completed application, we will consider it within ten working days. We will check that you have full registration with a licence to practise and no current restrictions on your registration.

We will email you to confirm the outcome. If your application is approved, your credential will usually appear on your public register entry within 24 hours. If your application is withdrawn, you will need to contact the credentialing body for a new recommendation to restart the process.

For credentialing bodies

Once a doctor has completed the required training, or provided evidence of equivalent experience, the credentialing body should submit a recommendation to the GMC.

Recommendations are submitted through GMC Connect. If you require further information about how to submit a recommendation, please contact us.
