Credentialing

GMC credentials formally recognise a doctor's expertise in a specific area of practice.

Credential curricula are designed by credential developing bodies and approved by the GMC. In approving the curriculum, we make sure it meets the standards we have set to deliver high quality training.

We have approved the following credential curricula:

• Mechanical thrombectomy
• Rural and remote
• Specialist Pain medicine
  • Part 1 – Handbook
  • Part 2 – Assessment System

The credentials are now ready for implementation by the UK statutory education bodies.

We don't plan to develop any further credentials but will continue to support and learn from the early adopters. The findings will support the career development of all doctors and help to improve flexibility in postgraduate medical education.
