Credentials

GMC credentials formally recognise a doctor's expertise in a specific area of practice. They address areas of patient safety or service need.

They are stand alone qualifications, unlike sub-specialties and special interest areas included in specialty training.

GMC credentials are marked on a doctor’s entry on the publicly available register.

Training vs recognition

GMC credentials describe the outcomes and standards expected of doctors working in a specific area of practice. There are two routes:

training – where specific credential training is completed
recognition – where evidence of relevant skills and experience, which can be evaluated against the standards, is provided.
