How can I request a review?

Information you will need

Before requesting a review, you should have the following information to hand.

  • The name of the doctor.
  • The doctor’s unique seven-digit GMC reference number. All doctors registered to work in the UK have a number, which you can find on our registers. If you need help, you can call our contact centre on 0161 923 6602.
  • The fitness to practise reference number provided by the GMC. You can find this in any previous GMC correspondence writing to you about the concern.
  • The date of the decision letter you received from the GMC. This is the letter where the GMC told you the outcome for the concern raised.
  • Your reasons why we should review the previous decision.
  • Any new documents that may support your request.

Please keep in mind, we can only review a decision under this process if there may be a significant error with the decision (a ‘material flaw’) or if there is new information which might have meant we came to a different decision. We can also only review a decision within two years of the original decision being made, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
