Good medical practice
Once registered with us, PAs and AAs must follow Good medical practice, which sets out the standards of patient care and behaviour expected of all our registrants.
Good medical practice is designed to be a supportive framework to guide registrants when caring for patients and working with colleagues. The standards describe good practice but aren’t a set of rules. PAs and AAs should apply them using their judgment, in the specific circumstances they face.
More detailed guidance
Good medical practice is supported by more detailed guidance, which explains more about specific areas that we often receive questions about or where it’s useful to provide extra detail. Topics include delegation and referral, maintaining personal and professional boundaries and using social media. Our ethical hub provides additional information explaining how to apply our professional standards in practice.
