The relationship between primary medical qualification and nationality 2016 and 2017

Insight purpose

Since the UK's vote to leave the European Union (EU), we've reviewed our registration data. We've looked at the numbers of doctors of different nationalities who practise in the UK.

In our previous insight paper on primary medical qualifications and nationality, we noted that we hold accurate details where every licensed doctor gained their medical degree. But we don't have nationality details for almost 67,000 doctors who joined the register before 2004.

We've used other registration data about these doctors to fill the missing nationalities at a broad group level. We then published estimated counts by nationality group.

What were the findings?
