Guide to regulatory reform

This guide is all about our role as a professional healthcare regulator – and how it will change in the future.

Regulation supports good, safe, patient care. Reform of the legislation that governs how we work will give us a modern and responsive framework that promotes public confidence, better supports our registrants, and helps us respond more quickly and flexibly when patient safety is at risk.

The legislation that introduced regulation of PAs and AAs was the first step towards future reforms for doctors and our aim to be a more relevant, effective and compassionate regulator.
