Requesting a duplicate certificate

This page is for doctors who need evidence of their specialist or GP registration.

Request a duplicate copy of your Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

You can request a duplicate copy of your CCT by emailing us on portfolio@gmc-uk.org. We’ll respond to your request within five working days.

We will only provide you will a duplicate of your CCT if:

  • This was awarded by the GMC
  • There has not been a change in the GMC’s Registrar since your certificate was awarded

For GMC CCTs awarded under a previous/different Registrar or by a predecessor organisation (such as the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board), we can provide you with a letter confirming the certificate award, not an actual certificate.

Duplicate registration certificates

We've issued specialist and GP registration certificates since April 2010, however over the course of 2024 and early 2025 we will stop issuing all registration certificates to doctors joining our registers. This will include duplicate specialist and GP registration certificates.

We can't replace certificates which were originally issued by one of the organisations below:

  • Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges between January 1996 and September 2005 (for specialists)
  • Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice before September 2005 (for GPs)
  • Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board between September 2005 and March 2010
  • General Medical Council from April 2010

However, you can obtain evidence of your registration status by accessing a link to your entry on our online registers.
